As well as being a campaigning tool for the party and social forum for getting new members involved, we believe Liberal Youth can have an important role to play in shaping Liberal Democrat policy.
As the next generation and future leaders of the Liberal Democrats on all levels, we believe we have a unique contribution to make to the policy process. Our party is the most democratic in its structure, and Liberal Youth have historically had success in introducing motions to conference such as dropping the gay blood ban, equalising marriage legislation, opening up the debate on drug laws, and defending disability benefits – many of these have gone on to be adopted as official party policy.
London Liberal Youth similarly encourages members to discuss policy: from why we are Liberal Democrats and what we stand for, to the specific, detailed policy ideas which might be taken further. We organise regular talks from guest-speakers through our uni branches, and have a group which meets up to talk about policy and future campaigns. If you are interested in getting involved with this group please contact londonregionalchair[at]liberalyouth.org
