London Results

Our newly elected Assembly members Caroline Pidgeon & Stephen Knight

We send our congratulations to the excellent Caroline Pidgeon and Stephen Knight who are our two Liberal Democrat GLA members for the next 4 years. Although there’s only two this time, Lib Dems always punch far above our weight and we wish them well as they start their term of office.

Team London Liberal Democrats have sent us a huge thank-you to every London Liberal Youth member who got involved over the course of the campaign. Whilst it was a disappointing result, the campaign showed how vibrant and enthusiastic our activist base is – encouraging prospects for 2014/15.

Our next steps will be to build Liberal Youth across London – starting new branches, linking in with local parties and electing a Regional Executive to take things forward.

Join us for a Regional Action Day with Sarah Teather MP in Brent on Saturday May 19th – find details and sign up here.

We need YOU at our Ministry of Sound Phonebank

London Lib Dems & Brian Paddick’s Mayoral campaign are running regular phonebanking sessions at Ministry of Sound.

Every weekday between now and the election we’ll be calling between 3 and 8.30 and weekends too.

Great Opinion piece on “Crime, Transport and the battle for London Mayor” from Paul Haydon

Paul Haydon

Just six months ago today London was emerging from its third night of rioting, with a semblance of order only just beginning to take hold as a massive police presence descended on the city. The fear in the streets was palpable. We had been given a brief and terrifying glimpse of what sheer anarchy looked like, the rage and shameless opportunism of London’s marginalised youth provoking deep existential questions about what was wrong with our society.

Yet, as the contest for London Mayor begins to build up momentum, Ken and Boris’ campaigns continue to revolve around the same old topic of public transport, ignoring the deeper societal issues at stake

London Liberal Youth join Fairer Fares campaign

Young Campaigner Ross Barlow & GLA List Candidates Stephen Knight & Munira Wilson out surveying commuters

This morning Brian Paddick & London Liberal Democrats launched our Fairer Fares campaign in train & tube stations across London, with members of London Liberal Youth getting involved alongside GLA candidates & Team London campaigners.

Our Mayoral Candidate Brian Paddick is calling for ‘early bird’ fares for those who commute before the morning rush hour and part-time travel cards for those who don’t travel as often.

He attacked Ken Livingstone’s plans to cut fares as unaffordable, but Brian claims ‘It’s time to take a new approach and these ideas would make travelling more affordable, flexible and would reduce some peak time overcrowding.’

London Liberal Democrats is pleased to announce that following a ballot of our members, Brian Paddick has been selected to be our candidate in the London Mayoral Election 2012.

Brian Paddick said:

“I want to thank the returning officer for the impartial and professional way he has run this selection process and I want to thank my fellow candidates for engaging in a high standard of debate throughout the campaign. I also want to thank my excellent team without whom I would not have been selected. Most of all, I want to thank London Liberal Democrat members who placed their trust and confidence in me to be their candidate for Mayor of London – I won’t let you down.
